Catholic Identity

The Vision for Religious Education (RE) at OLR has been collaboratively constructed with staff, parents and students and aims to form students who can articulate their faith and live it in an open and authentic way. Our Vision for Religious Education follows the two dimensions of Religious Education – religious literacy and faith formation:

"At OLR Caloundra, we believe religious education is about building the religious literacy of each one of our students while also nurturing our students' religious, spiritual and faith development in a caring Catholic community."

OUR RE PROGRAM

The OLR RE Program focuses on enabling students to explore their own religious tradition whilst also exploring and building empathy and understanding of the religious beliefs and practices of others. Students have the opportunity to investigate and inquire into their own faith and the faith of others with enhanced understanding.

At OLR, as in all schools and colleges of the Archdiocese of Brisbane, we teach people religion and teach people to be religious through the Catholic Christian tradition in ways, which are mindful of local contexts and the ecumenical and multi-faith realities of contemporary culture.  Our School programs, activities and experiences for the classroom learning and teaching of religion and the religious life of OLR are responsive to religious diversity, while being faithful to the Catholic Christian identity and MacKillop Charism of our school.

CURRICULUM

At OLR, a Catholic view about Learning and Teaching is reflected in the two interrelated components of RE:
1.   The classroom teaching and learning of Religion; and
2.   The Religious life of the school - which includes the Catholic Identity of our school embodied in the Charism of St Mary of the Cross MacKillop and our school motto To Pray, To Care, To Share

Our RE Program follows the Archdiocese of Brisbane Religion Curriculum P-12.   Teachers and the leadership team work together to ensure continuity of learning in RE across all year levels.  High quality teaching and learning in RE is assured through:
  • collaborative planning
  • engaging students through meaningful learning experiences
  • using the most effective and productive teaching pedagogy
  • staff participating in frequent and ongoing professional development
  • the school library providing many and varied RE resources
  • opportunities for all students to participate in social justice initiatives
  • providing multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate what they know and can do teachers participating in consistency of judgement within the school and across schools
  • monitoring student achievement individually, as a class, as a year level and as a school.

All teachers employed at OLR are registered to teach in a Catholic school and our classroom teachers of religion are accredited to teach Religion.
